CSM St Petersburg – Supporting Your Maritime Career
How to Start Your Career at Sea

Looking to build a maritime career with one of the world’s leading ship management companies? Here’s everything you need to know about how to join the CSM fleet through our St. Petersburg office.

To get started, simply submit your application (CV and documents) with as much detail as possible. Once we receive your profile, our recruitment managers will review it and contact you regarding the next steps.

These typically include:

  • English language and competence testing
  • A personal or online interview
  • A discussion of suitable job openings based on your qualifications and experience

Apply today at [insert application email or link]

We use a secure online testing platform to assess your:

  • English language skills
  • Professional knowledge and competence (based on rank and vessel type)

You’ll receive a link to complete the test remotely, and your communication skills will also be evaluated during the interview process.

  • The initial interview may be held in-person at our office or via online video call (MS Teams).
  • For selected candidates, a follow-up interview may be conducted with shipowners or ship managers, also typically via MS Teams.

We aim to make the process smooth, transparent, and respectful of your time.

For Officer and Able Seafarer (AB) positions, we generally require at least four months of prior experience in the same rank on a similar type of vessel.

If you are newly qualified, consider applying for Trainee or Cadet positions (see below for Cadetship opportunities).

Contract lengths vary depending on the rank and vessel, but generally:

  • Officers: 4 months
  • Ratings: 6 months

Exact terms will be discussed with you during the recruitment process.

Salaries depend on:

  • The type and size of vessel
  • Your rank and experience level
  • Specific fleet agreements

Our recruitment managers will provide detailed salary information when matching you with available vacancies.

Yes, but on a limited basis. Our Cadetship Programme is currently available for students from:

  • Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping
  • Admiral Ushakov State Maritime University

If you’re a Cadet, please apply through your university’s training and placement department.
